Although we live in an era of countless scientific advances, women still do not fully enjoy the technologies that exist today. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) estimates that there are 250 million fewer women online than men, and barriers such as this prevent their participation in the labor market (digital tools are increasingly used in the professions) and their economic empowerment. This situation also delays the material, moral, and spiritual progress of the people.

To change this picture and reaffirm just how important women’s access to technology is, during the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the United Nations (UN) is discussing the following review theme: “Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women.”

Through the 2018 GOOD WILL Women magazine (available in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish), the Legion of Good Will  recommends its best practices to the event, which is to be held in New York, March 12-23.

One of the highlights of this edition is the article “Women and Technology for Peace” by the President of the LGW, José de Paiva Netto, in which he states: “With the educational power of women and mothers, let us use the technological resources available and those that are yet to be created by human audacity to persevere working on the path to Peace and Justice.”

The magazine’s exclusive reports present the actions undertaken by the LGW across seven countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Portugal, the United States, and Uruguay) in favor of women and girls at social risk. Using technology in the Organization’s social, educational, and communication work, they significantly increase their digital knowledge, add to it values linked to Ecumenical Spirituality, such as Solidarity and ethics, and enhance their exercise of Global Citizenship.
