Buena Vista, Bolivia — For periods of approximately 2 years the Legion of Good Will (LBV) of Bolivia goes to different communities or rural areas to carry out its Charity Round program with weekly activities aimed at strengthening and rebuilding each one of them.

The community that benefited this time was Buena Vista, which is located in the 7th district of El Alto, a zone in the rural area where most of the families have no access to basic services like drinking water, electricity, or a sewage system.

The inauguration of the series of activities of the LBV’s program in the community started in September and involved the participation of volunteers from the Organization and some of the children assisted by the LBV’s Jesus Nursery School, who recited the Ecumenical Lords’ Prayer and the Good Child prayer for those present. On the occasion they also displayed their art work. More than 200 children received a plate of nutritious food, juice, and dessert.

In addition to the Buena Vista community, the LBV has already worked in San Anselmo, San Luis, Arco Iris, and San Miguel. With its Charity Round program the Organization fights hunger and takes spiritual support and words of encouragement to families that are at social risk. Activities take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at midday (Bolivian time).

MULTIPLYING GOOD ACTIONS

The importance of the Charity Round, the LBV’s first socio-assistance program which started on September 1, 1962 in Brazil, can be proved by the scope of its humanitarian work. Through the power of Solidarity, the initiative originated with the setting up of elementary schools, shelters for the elderly, and Social Service and Educational Centers all over the country, as well as awareness-raising and social mobilization campaigns.

In these locations the Organization offers various socio-assistance and socio-educational programs, which provided, in 2012 alone, more than 10 million services and benefits to the low-income population.
