The Legion of Good Will of the United States has continued with its solidary journey, this time heading to Puerto Rico. On Wednesday, December 13, it distributed emergency kits to local residents of Mambiche and region who were affected by Hurricane Maria. The items delivered to Puerto Rican families were collected in a mobilization effort undertaken by the LGW through its SOS  Disaster campaign. Thanks to the Power of Solidarity, these people now have hope that better days will come. =D

On Tuesday, December 12, the Goodwill Solidary Team delivered donations to people living in the Mariana and Tejas neighborhoods in Humacao, about 60 km from the capital, San Juan, thus helping the victims get back on their feet two months after the catastrophe struck. See that?  Where there is need the LGW is there! \o/

The island was hit hard by Hurricane Maria. Winds and floods devastated various towns and cities and so far electricity supply has only been restored to 30% of the people after the entire power grid was destroyed. This has even made it difficult for the Organization’s volunteers and partners to arrive and, consequently, to deliver the donations to the families.

However, nothing weakened the commitment of the Friends of Goodwill, who overcame these adversities and made the Power of Goodness shine. Congratulations to everyone involved! o/

The initiative was carried out in partnership with local and US humanitarian organizations, volunteers from New York and New Jersey, and airline company JetBlue, which once again stood firmly with the LGW and helped transport the donations. The local army helped with the delivery of the donations by lending a truck to the LGW’s team of volunteers.

SOS Disaster

The actions of the Disaster Relief Campaign seek to offer immediate relief to communities and families affected by natural disasters in several countries. At the end of September, the LGW supported children victims of Hurricanes Harvey (Houston, Texas) and Irma (Immokalee, Florida), and handed out hundreds of school supplies kits in partnership with local schools located in low-income regions.
